Inspiration

Ok, I have to admit I did make a few purchases at

The Australasian Quilt Convention.

I have just spent a couple of hours in the garden reading these gorgeous

Japanese magazines. No I can’t read Japanese, but the diagrams are so good

you could make the projects from the pictures alone.

Also purchased this tiny kimono pattern along with a few fat quarters.

Which I plan to make over the Easter break.

AQC

On a drizzly Melbourne morning we caught the train to the

Australasian Quilt Convention.

We arrived to find a massive queue for ticket sales and we knew it was going to be very busy.

Neither of us had anything in particular that we wanted to purchase,

so we had a good look at what each stand had to offer.

As always there are the favorites and

a few new ones which was great to see and to chat to.

The Quilted Crow from  Tasmania.

Beautiful quilts in reproduction fabrics and felted wool applique.

Mill Rose Cottage from Ballan in Victoria.

The Mill Cottage restaurant and cafe is right next door,

We are already planning a day trip with the girls, can’t wait for that.

The Patchwork Tea House in Warburton, Victoria.

A lot to look at on this stand.

They were also extremely busy and very hard to have a close look at anything

with the huge crowd around this stand.

Homespun Magazine had an antique sewing machine

on their stand, just had to have a closer look.

So much to see along with the quilt show,

we didn’t get to look at every stand as time ran out.

As we left the exhibition building the sun had come out and was very pleasant outside.

Had a wonderful day and came home very inspired

and a stack of ideas for new quilts.

Baltimore Garden

Last night, long after the shop had closed

at Patchwork Passion in Cranbourne a class was being held.

A long term Block of the Month class called Baltimore Garden.

One ladie had purchased the patterns a while ago and as they are all friends

and all wanted to make it,

they decided the only way to go was to come to a class.

                                   Roses in Bloom

                                                                                                      Cactus Flower

                                 Cottage Primroses

As you can see the ladies have all been working dilligently

on their homework to complete the applique as well as the three dimensial flowers.

This class they were working on the centre block which has a combination

of all the flowers in the first twelve blocks.

Next class they start the borders.

Changing of the Quilts

As the end of term looms closer,

classes have started and finished with many students completing their quilt tops.

It is time to move the quilts around.

So I packed up the car and headed for the hills

on a glorious autumn day to picturesque Warburton.

Along the way I came across this beautiful camellia hedge.

So I just had to stop and take a few photos, with permission of course.

Still plenty of buds left, will look spectacular for a few weeks yet.

Pennsylvania Rose Nickleby and Stars over Kansas are now at

The Patchwork Tea House as pattern samples.

Many of my other patterns are there as well, some of these you can see on the website.

There is a Japanese corner in the store

where I picked up this fat quarter for a later project.

I also spotted this brown floral that I just had to have,

although I’m not sure what for yet.

Saturday Class

This mornings class at Patchwork Passion in Cranbourne was Laurel Cottage,

a few faces missing but those who did make it

have been hard at work to keep up with their homework.

Jo’s completed foundation pieced blocks,

with the setting triangles all prepared for the next stage.

Brenda’s blocks all stacked neatly,

with her class notes all together in a folder.

And the lovely Helen’s nine patch blocks.

Helen has decided to  replace some of

the foundation pieced blocks with nine patch blocks.

Next to the nine patch blocks is the half completed

Dutchman’s Puzzle block.

Jo has added the setting triangles to form the border.

Helen completed piecing the corners

and laid out the nine patch blocks with the setting

triangles to see how it would look.

All up it was a busy morning with everyone

completing the corners and much homework

to be done before class next month.
