Demolition and Antiques

Before I add more pics of our travels last week, yesterdays weather

was a little wild. Strong wind in the morning with the first storm hitting

about 11am. Lots of thunder directly overhead followed closely by lightning.

And by the time I was ready to leave work there

was another storm (our third for the day) well underway.

This morning 33mls was in the rain gauge, the garden badly needed it

after all that wind, it was certainly starting to dry out.

Back to our travels, we spent a few hours wandering through

Mailors Flat Demolition and Antiques.

Hard to resist this china tea set, but no it stayed.

This clock was even more tempting….

An old red rattler train carriage, with its iron lacework

and pressed metal panels.

Destination reached

Our destination for the day was Windy Warrnambool as many of the locals called it.

First place to head for was Logans Beach and the whale viewing platform.

No whales today, season closed apparently.

Decided to go down to the beach and view the viewing platform from the beach.

Had to count the steps on the way back up, approx. 100.

Didn’t relize it was so far down, whose idea was this.

I think it was mine, seemed like a good idea at the time.

David wanted to fish from the Hopkins River bridge

(which has a fishing platform)

and I did some exploring on my own.

Missed the turn off to where I was going

and walked an extra km before I realized, ah well a lovely walk anyway

with the sound of the ocean in the background.

Came across this fully restored building Proudfoots Boathouse.

Originally built over a century ago.

Heading west

Arrived home after a wonderful weekend on the Ninety-Mile Beach

with just a couple of days to wash and pack everything again

for our next getaway. Only this time for a little longer.

The sewing machine would be staying home,

but a whole stack of quilts would also be travelling with us.

This time instead of heading east, we headed west and stopped for lunch

at a lovely park in Colac.

Our next stop was Terang, to drop off the quilts.

They would be staying at Terang Cottage Crafts for the week.

Remember this garden, here it is again only in spring instead of autumn.

More photos of this gorgeous garden to come.

Fragrant wild freesias

The last few weeks we have been on holidays,

no posts over that time but lots of photos for the next week or so of places we’ve visited.

The first weekend we were on the Ninety-Mile Beach,

always a favorite weekend/holiday destination for us.

Just love the sound of the ocean, waves crashing on the beach,

there is something very soothing to just watching the water.

We never know what we will see, whales, dolphins or sometimes even seals.

Not this time though, just the whole beach to ourselves.

While taking a walk one day we came across some vacant blocks

that were totally covered with fragrant wild freesia flowers.

Just lucky to be there at the right time to see such a wonderful display.

Also spotted these on one of our many walks.

David them went back to his fishing and I back to cutting and making bias stems.

Mornington Peninsula Patchworkers Exhibition

Saturday saw me at the Mornington Peninsula Patchworkers Exhibition.

Not a judged show, but a display of members work. This exhibition is held

biannually to give members time to create and complete projects.

Ann-Maree from Primitive Patches was one of the shops in attendance.

And her display was  inspiring as always.

As always I couldn’t resist making a purchase

and came home with these.

I love the Blackbird Designs books, these two I didn’t have

in my collection. It was a great find.

Quilts in the Barn

Although it was foggy early, we knew it was going to be a gloriously sunny day.

Just perfect for an excursion to Quilts in the Barn.

This is one of the favorite days that we attend every year and

we are never disappointed. This year the guest quilter is Jo Morton with

The Quilted Crow being the shop in attendance.

There were also many quilts from Linda from Quilts in the Barn.

After drooling over the quilts and giving our cards a workout,

we sat outside for coffee and cake. Just a beautiful setting.

Thank you girls for a very enjoyable day.

Spring is in the air

Spring is definitely in the air.

Waking to the sound of the birds singing in the morning.

All of the blossom trees out in flower.

Driving into my driveway I see my beautiful magnolia flowers

bursting open one by one. With the earliercheer daffs underneath.

The scent is intoxicating.

A wander around my Parents garden found all the fruit trees

starting to blossom.

Even though the daphne had almost finished flowering the scent

wafted throughout the garden.

This weekend is a busy one. With Father’s Day on Sunday

and not one but two quilt shows to go to.

Quilts in the Barn and the Mornington Peninsula Patchworkers Exhibition.
