Grow Your Blog!

Today I’m participating in the 3rd annual

‘Grow Your Blog’ meet and greet party.

So following the guidelines from our host here goes.

Hi, I’m Julie and I live on the beautiful

Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia.

Patchwork is a huge part of my life, being career,

hobby and passion. I love to design quilts and have more

designs drawn than I could possibly ever make in my lifetime.

There is always a quilt show, group

or new shop to visit, and many like minded people to meet.

Not to mention all the new quilts to start.

Quilts 3

Two of my quilts where all members of a friendship

group contribute to each others quilts.

Quilts 2

Quilts 1

The quilts made for teaching/patterns as well as those

made just because are starting to mount up.

These are just the ones at home at the moment,

most are out on loan to shops that stock my patterns.

Thats enough about me, I’m looking forward to visiting

many of the blogs participating and commenting

in the ‘Grow Your Blog’ party.

Continual Storm Clean-up!

Awoke early this morning to get a start on the day

before the chainsaws and mulchers begin, (as well as the media in helicopters above)

started for the day in the continual clean up from the storm

even after two weeks.

– see previous post and more pics here.

I know a lot of people have had property damage,

crews have been working tirelessly to repair

homes and to restore their power supply after three days.

Storm 8-1-15

Now that the roads are open again we get to a closer look

at  the amount of damage caused. Each time I drive down that

section I get to see a little more of the distruction.

This family had two giant cypresses uprooted in their front yard.

You can’ tell from the photos that  the base of this cypress

was about 3 metres across.

Storm 7-1-15 p

This gateway was distroyed by falling cypress trees.

(now totally removed)

This properties trees were just shredded.

We were so lucky to have so little damage.

Happy Fabric Frolicking!

This week I visited a couple of patchwork shops,

to restock them with my patterns before the

Fabric Frolic starts. Checked out some of the prizes,

there are going to be some very lucky people.

Fabric Frolic 2015

First shop I headed to The Patchwork Tea House.

Always love the drive there, as I take the scenic route

it takes a little longer but is worth it. It rained all the way,

something special about the Aussie bush when it rains

with the smell of the eucalypts and the beautiful tree ferns.

The Patchwork Tea House is well known for their

Devonshire Teas, a must have if you visit.

So much to look at

and new for this visit are the batiks.

Second stop was to Palm Beach Quilting,

also part of the Fabric Frolic.

Fabric Frolic 15k

Not only to restock my patterns and templates

but to drop off sample to showcase  a new range of fabrics.

Happy Fabric Frolicking for those

partaking in the festivites.

Grand Illusion Mystery Part 2!

In this past week, I have managed to complete the following

towards Grand Illusion Mystery quilt

part 5, four patch blocks.

Grand Illusion c

Well on my way with part 2 blocks.

Grand Illusion d

Purchased some new threads to try out and am really liking these.

Grand Illusion g

With part 3 I decided to piece my blocks differently from

Bonnie’s instructions due to my neutrals being shorter in length.

They will still look the same in the end.

Grand Illusion e

Grand Illusion f

First block nearly completed. I used a number of different

yellows as I didn’t have enough of any of them just to use one

as a constant, so mine is totally scrappy.

I am thrilled with how its coming together.

Weather Extremes!

Its true what is said about Melbourne weather,

or rather Victoria as we are not actually in Melbourne.

Four seasons in one day: forecast for yesterday, hot with the chance

of a thunderstorm later.

Magnolia 7-1-15

My Little Gem Magnolia first thing in the morning and just after lunch.

Enjoy them while they last as in this heat they won’t last long.

We reached a top of 42 degrees celsious by mid afternoon.

While bushfires raged out of control in parts of the state a lot

started by lightning strikes, we had our own storm which

thankfully not a lot of damage for us,

although four inches of water flowed through our garage.

Neighbours had tiles off roofs and minor damage,

but around the district the same could not be said.

Storm 7-1-15 f

Storm 7-1-15 g

Storm 7-1-15 c

Roads are closed and chains saws could be heard all night

and still this morning while the clean-up continues.

We lost power for about four hours, one report this morning said some

residents could be with out power for up to six days.

Storm 7-1-15 d

Last night we heard a rumor that our hall had lost its roof.

Hard to believe, but true. with debris strewn all over the road

and around the surrounding shops.

Storm 7-1-15 h

Storm 7-1-15 i

Storm 7-1-15 j

Storm 7-1-15 k

Storm 7-1-15 b

Our rain gage registered 32mls. 22mls from the storm

and the rest from light showers in the night.

On the roof is one of our resident Magpies.

Obviously they found a same place to survive the storm.

Alpine National Park!

After spending Christmas in Mansfield,

we decided to take the scenic route to the

Ninety Mile Beach. First stop was Jamieson,

a small ex gold mining town on the edge of Lake Eildon.

On a glorious mild summers day we left  Jamieson headed

towards the Alpine National Park.

Great Divide f

As we climbed higher and further into the park

on this quiet country summer only road,

the clouds got thicker and darker and before long

we were in the clouds and the temperate dropped to a chilly 4 degrees celsius.

Great Divide c

Although we were up in the clouds, there were glimpes

of stunning scenery.

Great Divide g

Lots and lots of dead snow gums, remnants from the 2006/2007

bushfires. If you look closely in the next couple of pics you

can see the road we are about to travel on before heading into more clouds.

Great Divide a

Great Divide b

Occasionally the sun peeped through and it looked like there was snow

on the ghost gums.

Great Divide k

At the top of Mt Skene was lots of  lovely wildflowers,

apparently in mid January the display is magnificent.
